As a Mortgage Broker in Sheffield, our main job is provide you with full help and guidance throughout the whole of the mortgage process. We will also try and find you a competitive mortgage deal that suits both your personal and financial situation.
Here is some information about our process, service and customer reviews in Sheffield.
Firstly, let’s take an in-depth look at our mortgage advice service; not many people actually know what we do! As a Mortgage Broker in Sheffield, our main responsibility is to find you a competitive mortgage deal that benefits you financially and personally as well as helping you through the whole mortgage progress.
1. Firstly, once you get in touch with our responsive team, we will get a few details from you so that we can pair you with a Mortgage Advisor in Sheffield that specialises in your personal situation.
We will schedule a free mortgage consultation with your Mortgage Advisor in Sheffield so that we can learn even more about your mortgage situation and start comparing mortgage deals for you.
2. During your free consultation, your dedicated advisor will get a better picture of your personal and financial situation. When they have the information that they need, they can start looking for mortgage deals for you, trying to find one that tailored for you!
If they manage to find a deal that’s perfect for you and you are happy to proceed with it, it’s time to get your mortgage application prepared.
3. At this stage, we will approach the lender and get an Agreement in Principle (AIP) for you. An AIP will show that the lender is willing to let you borrow from them for a mortgage given that you can provide evidential documents to back up things like your income and credit score. During this part of the process, you can start house hunting with your AIP to back up any offers.
After we’ve got an AIP for you, we will begin getting evidential documents from you to back up your mortgage application. These will be things like your payslips, bank statements, photographic ID, etc. This step will vary if you are a self-employed applicant.
4. If everything looks good on our end and we think that you’ll be able to afford a mortgage and you’ll pass the lender’s credit scoring criteria, we can get your application submitted!
Now it’s just a waiting game. Usually, a mortgage application can take up to three weeks to return; we’ll keep you updated throughout this step of the process and make sure that you are informed right away if we receive any updates on your application.
Once we hear back from the lender and get the green light to go ahead, everything is complete! Congratulations, now it’s time to start looking at moving into your new property!

Home Movers and First Time Buyers in Sheffield use a Mortgage Broker (Mortgage Advisor) to help the process of purchasing a home go as smoothly as possible. Buying a home can be a very stressful experience, and our customers like to know they have got someone reliable on their side on hand to answer all their questions and queries.
Your Dedicated Mortgage Advisor in Sheffield will ensure you obtain the most suited mortgage to match your circumstances. We will recommend the most suitable mortgage for you and package your application to the Lender in such a way to give it the best chance of success. The same rules apply when you come to Remortgage too, we like to know our customers are on the most affordable deal for the entire term of the mortgage.
We think talking to a Mortgage Advisor in Sheffield early on in the process is a good idea. We can help you work out what you can afford to pay and also how much the different Lenders will let you borrow. You would be surprised by the vast differences between Mortgage Lenders when it comes to the maximum mortgage available. Knowing what you can afford well in advance of making an application helps you avoid disappointment.
Communication also plays a large part. We like to keep our customers informed about their application’s progress by email, so you know things are moving forward. It’s good to know that we are also at the end of the phone when you need us.
Mortgage Brokers work for the customer, not the Lender. This is important to note because we are in your corner sometimes having to argue the strengths of an application to ensure it goes through. We know our customer’s financial situation inside out, and by requesting and checking your proof of income and bank statements well in advance of a Lender seeing them, we look to avoid any potential hurdles before we hit them carefully.
If you need help you choose the right type of survey for your transaction and instruct a Solicitor on your behalf to carry out the legal aspects of your transaction. We are experts in completing application forms on behalf of our clients to ensure accuracy and give your application the best chance of completion.
Finally, a great Mortgage Advisor will love to build up an ongoing relationship with a client. It can often start with an affordability assessment and Agreement in Principle before even finding a house. Even after the purchase is complete, we keep regular contact via email and re-engage by phone running up to the initial mortgage product coming to its end. We then compare the market on your behalf once again to obtain the best remortgage deal available.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has declared as of January 5th a set of new national limits for England until March during Lockdown.
Still, it has been confirmed that you can still purchase and even move to a new house during Lockdown under some circumstances.
On 4 January 2021, the UK will be once more going into a national lockdown. The next day, all changes would have an impact on the 5th, with certain sectors staying open during the next six weeks. Working like the November 2020 lockdown, the property market will continue to remain open for business as normal, meaning you will still have the opportunity to take up house viewings, or push on with your property purchase and put your home up for sale.
It is important to emphasize that you may continue to encounter delays with some businesses. Solicitors and Surveyors are once more in need of tougher restrictions, leading their services to take a little longer and will need your cooperation and patience. There is also expected to be a mad dash of customers attempting to take full advantage of the Stamp Duty Cut before that eventually comes to an end.
We want to advise everyone looking at Moving Home in Sheffield, to stay safe during the process and to ensure you are following all the right guidelines. For more information please consult the latest government guidance about how you can protect yourself and others whilst in the process.
We are delighted to verify that yes, 90% mortgages are still accessible. We see signs more often that lenders are more confident in the UK property market as time goes on. The request for properties is still very much there, and that people will begin to come back when they get convinced that they can get a deal with a 5-10% deposit.
You may also be able to access a 90% mortgage through something like the Help to Buy Equity Loan scheme or the Help to Buy Shared Ownership scheme. Your mortgage advisor will explain how these methods could help you obtain a mortgage with only a 5-10% deposit.
Mortgage Payments Holidays (a means of temporarily postponing finances that could leave you struggling during the pandemic) were due to end on 31 October 2020. Thankfully for several, this option has now been extended to 31 March 2021.
If you are yet to utilise a Mortgage Payment Holiday, you will be able to request a break of up to 6 months. If you have already taken a Mortgage Payment Holiday of less than 6 months, you will be able to extend your existing holiday up until the 6-month mark.
Our open and honest Mortgage Advice service in Sheffield is still running, and we will be happy to help in any way we can. We have a team of devoted mortgage advisors available from 8 am – 10 pm, 7 days a week, during the year to assist you with your mortgage enquiries. This past year has been painful enough for many, we would love to take as much strain out of your mortgage process as possible.
All customers will still benefit from a free initial mortgage consultation, no matter the situation.
For a brief rundown of the property and mortgage market’s current situation, please check out our video where our company director Malcolm Davidson, recorded the following day after Boris announced lockdown.
We want to hope this year ends on a positive note and continues into a safe and prosperous New Year for everyone from me and my team here at Sheffieldmoneyman and we hope for a healthy 2021 for all of us.
Property values have held up remarkably well during the pandemic. This is due to the fact of a shortage of stock, undiminished consumer demand, and the Stamp Duty Holiday (which is due to end in March).
If 2020 has proved nothing else, it has confirmed you’ll never stop people from wanting to put their foot onto the property ladder and be homeowners.
In terms of my predictions for 2021, despite rising unemployment, I fully expect the consumer demand for buying property to continue.
More people are continuing to spend more time at home, and, naturally, people might look for something larger, better, or with a lot more land.
We will also see lots of remortgage activity from customers who are happy where they are living but would like to invest in their homes by extending them or creating home offices.
Interest rates are still low, and off the back of Brexit, the Government will be keen for the property sector to thrive given that it is one of the “wide multipliers”, e.g. it sustains lots of jobs.
Once the vaccine gets rolled out entirely, and life gets back to some form of normality. I believe there will be many people who adopt a “life’s too short” outlook, and this should be good for the economy as a whole, especially those involved in the property market.
If you need expert Mortgage Advice in Sheffield and would like to speak with one of our dedicated mortgage advisors about taking out a mortgage or life insurance in 2021 please do get in touch, we’ll be happy to help.
In our recent article “How will Lockdown 2.0 affect the Property Market?“, we discussed the property market and what sort of shape it’s in. In summary, everything is looking great and you can do everything that you were doing prior to the lockdown.
Off the back off that article, we realised that we didn’t really cover what’s happening on our end. What is it like getting Mortgage Advice in Sheffield during Lockdown 2.0?
Your Mortgage Broker in Sheffield is stronger than ever before! We haven’t let this lockdown affect our reliable Mortgage Advice service. With the help from the market combined with our experience, we are still able to offer our full support throughout the lockdown.
Although, there may be a slight hold up in the market, and this is because most estate agents, solicitors, etc, are functioning from home now. So if things are taking slightly longer than expected, all we can ask is that you be patient. Everyone is in the same boat remember; it’s also better to take things slower and get things done right.
From our point of view, as a Mortgage Broker in Sheffield, we think that the only way is up. Compare where we are now to the last lockdown, this time around everything is much better. There are some new measures in place such as social distancing, but other than that, things are as they were.
Whatever your mortgage situation, you could be a First Time Buyer in Sheffield or a Home Mover in Sheffield, we are here to help! We are encouraging homeowners and buyers to continue with their mortgage process, as the longer that you leave it, the closer to the January rush you will get. Speaking to a Mortgage Broker in Sheffield could be just what you need to help you get through the mortgage process.
There has never been a better time to get Mortgage Advice in Sheffield, especially during these unprecedented times. We want to be here for you and help you through your mortgage journey.

To show how our service hasn’t changed one bit over the lockdown, we have put together some our favourite lockdown reviews.
We pride ourselves on our customer reviews and you’ll be able to see why here:
“An amazing and easy team to work and communicate with. They were always ready to help and provide whatever support we needed. On Saturday 31st October, the British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced that England would enter “lockdown 2.0” from Thursday 5th November to Wednesday 2nd December. These restrictions were put into place in aid to try and reduce the spread of the coronavirus. Compared to the last lockdown, the restrictions are not as tight this time around. This is allowing more industries and educational systems to remain open. Now that we are in the depths of the second lockdown, we can say that everything is looking promising and the property market is remaining open!
Of course, not everything can carry on as normal as the whole nation is on lockdown. Things that have become stricter are the social distancing measures when visiting estate agents and going for house viewings etc. Despite some restrictions, the property market is still standing strong, here is what you are allowed to do over the lockdown:
As a Mortgage Broker in Sheffield, we have recently received a lot of questions surrounding the property market and whether or not it’s going to be impacted by lockdown 2.0. In response, we thought that it would be best to answer your questions by breaking them down one by one:
Unlike the last lockdown, the restrictions are not as tight in this one, so yes, you can still move home. Everything that you needed for your Moving Home journey is all still available, this includes home removal services, van hire, etc.
Remember, every step of the process must be completed under the social distancing guidelines. This is particularly important if you are taking house viewings regularly.
Yes, you can visit your estate agent’s office, however, some of them have chosen to shut their branches and have their employees work from home. Quite a few estate agents have gone down this route so it might be best to check whether they are open or not before going directly to them.
Estate agents might decide to move towards this approach, especially in this day and age. You can still get your process started over the phone and even online, so there is nothing wrong with this new way of doing things. We always advise that you take your time if you decide to do everything online, and make sure that you clearly understand everything that is being communicated.
Yes, you can still continue with house viewings, however of the option is available, you could maybe try out your estate agent’s virtual house viewing. Again, most home buyers are realising that this approach is a lot safer; as a Mortgage Broker in Sheffield, we expect that a lot of people will take up virtual viewings, especially over the lockdown period.
Even though a virtual viewing maybe your best option, we also understand that choosing your dream home is a life decision, especially if you are a First Time Buyer in Sheffield. So, we completely get it if you want to view the property in person to get the feel for it.
Your estate agents will also have to check with the property owners that a socially distanced property viewing is okay with them. If they are, you are all good to go, a date and time will just need arranging. Depending on the time of day and the homeowner’s situation, they may want to go out somewhere so that there as few people in the household as possible.
The property market hasn’t been put to a halt like the last lockdown, you can continue the home selling process as normal. You’ll need to consider a lot of different things when selling a property, this includes things like choosing an estate agent and a property valuation, getting pictures of the property taken, etc.
With the current government guidelines in place, there may be some delay in the process. Estate agents are very busy at the moment and are facing new enquiries all of the time. With all of the measures and new enquiries, things that are normally easy to complete are taking a little longer.
Yes, conveyancing solicitors are remaining open throughout this lockdown. They will still be available to support your property sale. Again, most solicitors are working from home, so we recommend that you be patient. There is a high demand in the market right now so things may come slower than usual.
In Sheffield, we are asked this question a lot. During the last lockdown, many homeowners were interested in taking out a mortgage payment holiday, however, during this lockdown, the demand has lowered even though you can still take one out.
So if you want to take out a mortgage payment holiday you still can, but make sure that if you are going to, it’s because you need to. As a Mortgage Broker in Sheffield, we do realise that there are a lot of people that will need to take a mortgage payment holiday, if this is your situation, make sure that you know exactly what they are and how they work. For more useful information on mortgage payment holidays, check out our mortgage payment holidays article. It could help you decide whether or not taking one out will be right for you.
If you have already taken out a mortgage payment holiday during the first lockdown and are currently still on the scheme, you can extend your holiday so that it comes to a total of six months holiday. However, if you have already had a six month payment holiday, you have already reached the six month limit and therefore unlikely that you will be able to access this scheme again.
Eventually, the property market will catch back up to speed and everything should resume to normal. During this lockdown, the property market may not be up to a perfect standard, but thankfully you can still keep trading. So you are able to start the mortgage/home buying process whenever you want.
If you want to start your journey, it may be within your best interests to get Mortgage Advice in Sheffield. With all of the social distancing measures in place and the demand in the market, this could also speed things up for you. As an experienced Mortgage Broker in Sheffield, we have mountains of knowledge in helping customers obtain their mortgage goals. We want the whole process to run as smoothly as you do; don’t hesitate to get in touch today. We can’t wait to hear from you!

If you are reading through these reviews looking for an advisor for your mortgage then look no further… You’ve found them!!” – Stephen B
“I have met every sort of sales company/person and don’t mind saying I was somewhat sceptical when I first phoned Sheffieldmoneyman about sorting me a mortgage. But from the outset and onwards they proved to be good listeners, understanding and human. Not at all pushy, instead very efficient and great at finding just what I needed, on great terms from a lender who is reputable but one I had never heard of. The entire process was efficient from start to finish. A huge thanks to Annie and Chloe in the Sheffield office” – Emma M
“Service provided by Sheffieldmoneyman was of a high standard throughout the mortgage application process. Their input sped the application process up dramatically, and they were attentive to email and phone queries/questions at every stage of the journey. The benefits of their advice and insights far outweighed the (minor) costs incurred for their services. I would highly recommend them to other First Time Buyers in the Sheffield area” – Anonymous
